THEATRE/LITERARY/GALLERY EXPERIENCE
Improv Olympic West, Los Angeles, CA
Intern-Assigned to assist in the organization of an annual comedy festival run by the IO West Theatre, the largest of its kind in Los Angeles. Responsibilities include cold calling prospective clients to advertise in the festival’s brochure, speaking to different prospective clients in person, organizing submissions as they come in from potential performers, and helping out with the festival once it goes up in June.

Intern- Assisted in the running of a publishing company which presents an annual Off-Off Broadway play festival. Worked on HTML on the website for the company’s London affiliate, read and reported on standard script submissions and those for the Festival, filed and organized rejected from accepted script submissions, received books, assisted supervisor, and served as a judge for the Festival in June.
Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, New York, NY
Intern- Assisted in the running of a non-profit educational/art gallery. Answered phones, greeted gallery guests, ran the cash register at the gift shop, assisted at opening receptions for new shows, worked at outside events (e.g. conventions) etc. Researched the history of American women cartoonists for the “She Draws Comics” show, May 2006, helped with copywriting, helped write the story document for the show, contacted artists, measured/catalogued artwork, filed necessary information in Microsoft Excel and My Art Collection Software, and was involved in the curatorial aspects/design of the hanging plan for the show.

Reader- Read three scripts per week for an Off-Broadway Theater company and wrote synopsis, analysis, and recommendation of each. Met weekly with the company’s Literary Manager to report on the plays.

Homework Tutor-Trained to work with middle school children to work with them on literacy and math skills, as well as various art projects, a program newsletter, theatre, and other activities, in an afterschool program.

Tutor-Tutored children in two placements: one weekly at the “Help Bronx Crotona” Shelter in Bronx, NY, and one weekly at the Riverfront Library, Yonkers, NY, helping children build literacy skills in each.
